Leeds City Academy

Principal's Update

Aspire Together, Achieve Together

Welcome back for a new term and new year at Leeds City Academy. It has been an outstanding start for all of our young people, who are looking exceptionally smart in their new uniforms and meeting our high standards and expectations for personal appearance. I would like to thank all parents for their support in securing such a high standard in uniform, which underpins the pride and equality which our uniform symbolises across our whole school community.

I am delighted to report that our new Year 7 have settled in very well this term, with everyone demonstrating confidence as they find their way around the Academy. This term, many of our new students will be forging new friendships which I hope will last for life and it is wonderful to see so many of our happy, enthusiastic and conscientious pupils supporting each other as they begin their learning journey at our school.

As you will be aware from our news stories in August, we return after a very successful summer with our best ever GCSE results. Results in most subjects went up significantly with massive improvements in English, History and Science. These grades are the result of students' hard work and dedication, coupled with our staff's relentless energy and talent. We are very proud of our outgoing Year 11 students, who have now taken flight on their next steps in education and beyond. We wish you all well and hope you will stay in touch.

So, in more detail, the results have increased significantly on last year with our pass in English and Maths now at 41% (equivalent to old A*-C) and our strong pass grades at 27%, which beats many other Leeds schools. These results place Leeds City Academy as one of the most improved schools in Leeds and in the top 50% of schools nationally. We achieved 4 grade 9s in Maths (highest grade in the new grading system), and one in English Language. We achieved 76 top grades including Distinctions, and A, or A* grades in 19 different subjects. Our highest scoring students was Alixe, who achieved Grades 9 in Maths, English Language, Grade 8 in English Literature, A, and A* in sciences, A in Geography, A* in History, and As in Art and Citizenship.

Leeds City Academy secured the best results this year thanks to dedicated staff and equally dedicated students. This is a reminder that it is essential that students come to the Academy on time and ready to learn every day. Results like these are only possible with attendance of 98% and above. We have even more talented and dedicated teachers this year who have the skills and ability to teach students to the highest levels, so it is imperative that no student misses out on making progress due to unnecessary absence.

In the meantime, I'd like to remind you all of our upcoming Open Morning on Saturday 7th October. This is a great opportunity for families of prospective new Year 7 students to join our vibrant school community. Please share the news and extend our invitation to families who are seeking an unbeatable education for their children. More details about our Open Morning can be found here.

This year is set to be another remarkable year for our students and I thank you for ensuring we can work together to secure the very best future for our young people.

Best wishes,

Jackie Rose
Principal
