Leeds City Academy
Jackie Rose graduated from Bishop Grosseteste College Lincoln in Primary Education Studies & Drama, before teaching Year 4 in Leeds for a year. As a keen contemporary dancer, Jackie moved to London and secured a place at the London School of Contemporary Dance, where she trained to dance professionally in a Postgraduate year of intense study. Six years as a professional dancer followed, working in dance companies in England and across Europe, including Belgium for two years.
Jackie first began teaching Dance at Northumberland Park Community School in London. The school was challenging but provided invaluable experience in motivating and inspiring students into Performing Arts. A year later, Jackie moved to John Kelly Technology College and was appointed Assistant Head of Faculty, followed by Head of Faculty.
Following the birth of her son, Jackie secured Head of Performing Arts at Intake High School, heading up and furthering their specialism. Many successful dancers, actors and musicians came out of the school, with Jackie assuring very high GCSE results in the department.
In 2006 the school became Leeds West Academy and in 2009 Jackie was promoted to Assistant Head in charge of Post-16. Within a year the Sixth Form expanded from 50 students to over 150, ensuring the Sixth Form was fully viable whilst providing a diverse range of courses and achieving excellent results. In 2015 Jackie was seconded to Leeds City Academy as Vice Principal and became Principal in 2016. This summer saw a rise in results, particularly in Maths, under the leadership of her team of staff. The Academy is now well placed to see further growth and development next year and beyond.
In her spare time Jackie enjoys cycling, swimming and going to theatre. She especially enjoys spending time with her two children and husband, in addition to walking Bruno, their family dog.
