| If your child is absent from school, please call the academy on 0113 284 4260 (option 1). We require daily calls to ensure your child is safe. |
Your child should be in school by 8.20am every day. This ensures they are on time, relaxed & ready for form time at 8.30am. If your child is late to school, this is likely to result in lost learning & falling behind their peers.

Magic Breakfast
Every morning 8:00am-8:25am the academy is open to all students to take part in Magic Breakfast.
Magic Breakfast gives students the opportunity to make sure they are fuelled for the day, choosing from a range of breakfast items ranging from cereal to toast and bagels, all for free!

Leeds City Academy Attendance initiative
Regular attendance at school is vital to help your child achieve and get the best possible start in life. There are 30 days in a 6-week half term. If your child has 1 and a half days off school, their attendance will be 95%. Good attendance is central to students’ academic achievement and personal development. Please support your child and encourage them to achieve band 1.

Attendance above 97%+
Outstanding attendance, students in this band are more likely to achieve better outcomes. Students in this category are eligible for rewards that are on offer. |

Attendance drops below 95%+
Student is monitored by the form tutor to offer support and encourage no more absence from school. Students in this band who have taken unauthorised absence from school will receive a notification letter from the attendance team. |

Attendance drops below 93%
Students are likely to be monitored by the wider pastoral team such as the Year Manager and Attendance Welfare Officer. Students in this category will receive a notification letter about their attendance. |

90% or below Attendance is a serious concern
Parents invited in for Student Attendance Panel meeting and further monitoring will continue to reduce the risk of legal action. Students in this category will struggle to make as much progress as other students with better attendance. The academy will explore all options to work In Partnership to support you to improve your child’s attendance |

Parental Responsibilities
By law parents have a duty to educate their children by ensuring regular attendance at school or otherwise.
- In order to facilitate this process, parents with children at Leeds City Academy are expected to:
- inform school by telephone 0113 284 4260 on the first morning of any absence before 9.30am
- provide a note to cover the absence on the child’s return to school
- ensure that their child gets to school on time
- ensure that their child catches up on missed work to avoid ‘gaps’ in their knowledge.
- not take family holidays during term time (see further guidance below)
- Only the Principal may authorise such absences. Absences without permission from school will be registered as unauthorised (equivalent to truancy).
The Legal Framework
- Under The Education Act 1999, parents are responsible for ensuring that children of compulsory school age receive full-time education. Parents have a legal responsibility to ensure their child’s regular attendance at the school where they are registered.
- If a child of compulsory school age who is registered at a school fails to attend regularly at the school, the parent is guilty of an offence under this Act.
Aims
- At LCA we firmly believe that all students benefit from regular school attendance. The aim of this guidance is to minimise the amount of time lost due to absence in order to maximise the educational potential of every student. This can be achieved with the support of parents by ensuring absence, including holidays, is not taken during term time unless there are ‘exceptional circumstances’*.
- At LCA, in order for an attendance record to be deemed good, it must be 96% or above.
