Course Description:

The Tech Award gives learners the opportunity to develop sector-specific applied knowledge and understanding through realistic vocational contexts.

What will I learn? 

Component 1: Exploring Enterprise

To explore different enterprises to develop knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of enterprises and the skills needed by entrepreneurs to be successful. You will explore how enterprises use market research to find out about their customer needs and competitor behaviour and how internal and external factors may affect enterprises. 

Component 2: Planning and Presenting a Micro-Enterprise idea

You will generate two realistic ideas for a micro-enterprise and choose one of these to plan within budget. You will individually present your business plan for their idea and review the production and delivery of their presentation to make recommendations for improvements. 

Component 3: Marketing and Finance for Enterprise

You will explore how marketing is used by enterprises and the factors that influence how enterprises identify and target their market. You will complete financial documents and statements and explore how to use them to monitor and improve the performance of an enterprise in order to make decisions and recommend strategies for success.

Learners who generally achieve at Level 2 across their Key Stage 4 learning might consider progression to:

• A Levels as preparation for entry to higher education in a range of subjects.
• Study of a vocational qualification at Level 3, such as a BTEC National in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, which prepares learners to enter employment or apprenticeships, or to move on to higher education by studying a degree in the business sector.
   

Students who generally achieve at Level 1 across their Key Stage 4 learning might consider progression to:

• Study at Level 2 post-16 in a range of technical routes designed to lead to work, employment, apprenticeships or further study at Level 3. Learners who perform well in this qualification compared to their overall performance, should strongly consider this progression route as it can lead to employment in the enterprise sector.
• Study business enterprise post-16 through a Technical Certificate designed to lead to work, progression to employment via apprenticeships or further study at Level 3.
