Student awarded for volunteering effort
Congratulations to Samuel, Year 10 student at Leeds City Academy.
Samuel volunteers on weeknights and weekends at CATCH (Community Action To Create Hope) a Leeds based charity. At the end of 2019, CATCH presented Sam with an award. They said "We are proud to announce the 2019 Activity Assistant of the Year Award goes to Samuel for being an outstanding, respectful, committed, hard-working, kind, caring, reliable & friendly individual."
Sam talks very enthusiastically about the influence CATCH have had on his life. He said "CATCH have given me real confidence, they have taught me to believe in myself and celebrate my own Romanian heritage and empower the community.
"They have helped me improve my language and presentation skills, and even taught me how to cook and to help run a cafe business as part of the enterprise!"
Samuel now has a desire and plans to continue volunteering with CATCH, really focus during his last two years at Leeds City Academy and one day become an architect or work within the emergency services.
Mr Fox, Samuel’s Year Manager said “I am very proud of Samuel. Throughout his remaining years at LCA I will continue to help him realise his incredible potential. Sam now has a dream to change the way people sometimes negatively and wrongly look at the Romanian community. He stated at the end of our interview, "I feel so proud, my parents, my friends, my community are also really proud,I now know that the way some people look at the Romanian community will change forever; Romanian people are amazing."
"Sam we are very proud of you. Keep up the good work. Well done Sam!”
