TSLG workshop with SARSVL
On Wednesday 25th September, we were pleased to welcome Tove from SARSVL (Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds) into Leeds City Academy to meet with our Trust Student Leadership Group.
Following the Executive Principal having the pleasure of meeting Lord Mayor 2019-2020, Councillor Eileen Taylor at the Leeds City College STAR Awards, it was decided that the Lord Mayor's charity SARSVL would be the one that the Trust Student Leadership Group will support this academic year. SARSVL were kind enough to come in and run a workshop with our TSLG.
Tove, from SARSVL, began the presentation by asking students to discuss gender stereotypes. Students got into three groups and wrote their ideas. The students openly spoke about stereotypes in smaller groups and gave brilliant feedback to the rest of the group highlighting the stereotypes they identified.
Students then watched a YouTube video that showed a scenario of a student being sexually harassed at school by another student and how the students who witnessed it didn’t stand up or report it. Tove then started a discussion with the group encouraging them to speak about what they learnt. She then help them understand the importance of speaking out if they are ever in a situation like that.
Tove also explained all of the different people they should speak to if they ever see are in a situation like that such as the helplines, teachers, adults. In addition, Tove gave the students stickers, pens and keyrings to remind them of these helplines and to raise awareness.
Thank you Tove for facilitating such an engaging workshop.
